Top drive, also known as top drive drilling system, is a petroleum drilling technology used to replace traditional rotary drive methods. The top drive system directly drives the rotation of the drill string through a power device located at the top of the drilling tool to carry out the drilling process. This technology reduces the number of connections, improves drilling efficiency, and can be used in various environments, including marine drilling and onshore drilling.
Improving efficiency: By reducing the number of times a single rod is connected, top drive significantly improves drilling efficiency. 34
Enhanced safety: Top drive is safer when dealing with complex underground situations, such as circulating drilling fluid and drilling back holes, which can be performed at any location. 45
Wide application: Top drive has been widely used in offshore drilling platforms and onshore oil drilling rigs, especially on shallow sea oil drilling ships or platforms, almost all of which are equipped with top drive.
Since the top drive system (TDS, also known as top drive) developed by Varco in December 1981, top drive has gradually been adopted by the oil drilling industry around the world. Almost all shallow offshore drilling vessels or platforms are equipped with top drives, and more and more onshore oil drilling rigs are also equipped with top drives. After Varco in the United States, Maritime Hydraulics in Norway, ACB Bretbr and TRITEN in France, National Oilwell in the United States, CANRIG in Canada, and Tesco have all developed and used top drives.

The faucet drilling motor assembly includes the following main components:
(1) Drilling motor and brake (air brake)
(2) Gearbox (gearbox);
(3) Integrated faucet;
(4) Equalizer.
